The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Research Department, collectively known as Digestive Diseases, are based at the Clinical Research Facility at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

The Gastroenterology team are widely involved in all areas of Gastro-intestinal disease. We have vast experience in both interventional and non-interventional trials in both the commercial and non-commercial setting. Key areas of interest are IBD, colorectal & Upper GI cancers and research that is performed in the Endoscopy department.

The Hepatology team directly contributes to the Department of Health (DoH) Clinical Research Network sponsored research, developing evidence that helps towards the care of patients with chronic liver diseases within the Yorkshire and Humber region. We also work closely with industry to run early and late phase studies in Hepatology, with the focus of our work on all liver disease including PBC (Primary biliary cholangitis), Hepatitis and cirrhosis.

As part of our trials, we are testing novel agents, with the aim of improving patient outcomes, giving patients access to treatments not yet available on the NHS. We provide close clinical monitoring of our patients, and from the results of our trials, patient care is constantly improving. We embrace each and every patient in Bradford’s diverse community that can play an important role in how we deliver future healthcare.
