Connecting Science and Community: BIHR Launches Official Instagram Channel

The Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR) has launched its official Instagram channel (@bihr.bradfordresearch), creating a shared visual hub to bring health and care research directly to the public.

Hosted at Bradford Royal Infirmary (Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), BIHR acts as the overarching umbrella bringing together major regional research infrastructures. The new Instagram presence represents a joint initiative across core research programs, including Born in Bradford (BiB), the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Yorkshire and Humber (YH ARC), the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration (PSRC), the Academic Unit for Ageing and Stroke Research (ASR), and the NIHR Bradford & West Yorkshire Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC).

Bringing Research Evidence to Everyday Life

Historically, health research findings have been shared through academic journals and formal reports. The launch of this shared Instagram presence is designed to bridge the gap between scientific evidence and local communities, translating complex health data into clear, accessible visual content.

Across the channel, followers can expect:

  • Public-Facing Research Findings: Plain-English summaries showing how local research is actively changing health services and national guidelines.
  • Study Recruitment & Participation: Clear calls to action for local residents to take part in clinical trials, community surveys, and public panel discussions.
  • Behind-the-Scenes Insights: Spotlights on the 500+ research projects happening each year, featuring clinical research nurses, data scientists, and academic leads.
  • Community Voices: Real stories highlighting how local families and patient contributors shape research questions from the outset.
